My first time painting here- it's a little inconvenient to get to.

 

Urban planning and architecture in Santinho and Ingleses is appalling: ugly unmatched buildings cuttng off the sea, a lack of tree planting or integration with nature, and poor general maintenance.

Too cloudy for much of a sunset, but very enjoyable to sit there working nonetheless. despite the tourists with their horrible music.

These were painted from the old road just to the south of SC-403.

They`re all small. With this format and style, which involves very few layers of paint, the paintings are rapidly finished. It`s like  shooting a musket.  a match. You get  just one chance to hit your target.

Winter is beautiful for painting here. You get side light and spacial depth is enhanced.

One of the yards on the way to Ingleses. 

The workmen wear flip flops even when lifting heavy materials.

They appear to bevlearing the land here, presumably for housing. After I painted it I thought "Hobbema!", specifically the famous Avenue at Middelharnis in London's National Gallery.

There is a fine song by The Band called Whispering Pines:

Another painting of a road. One way artists avoid ennui and deal with their fear of repetition is to create series, so that the lack of dissimilarity between works is a point of interest, not of boredom.
