Monument, Central Square, Trujullo

Rather deco styled monument in central Trujillo, commemorating the Peruvian war of independence, erected in 1929. The sculptures owe something to Michealangelo and perhaps Arno Breker.

This isn't Fascist sculpture- if we define Fascist sculpture by its political objectives. But it has some of what my old tutor Michael Bury used to describe as its "pea-braned" qualities.

A visit to northern Peru- part two- Trujillo

It was very hot and dusty in Trujillo which is visited mainly for the archaeological ruins close by, though it has nice Spanish architecture and a handsome central square.

 There was something about the place that made me feel heavy and slightly depressed and I am glad I was only there for a few days. I heard later from a taxi-driver that the city is overrun by criminal gangs and extortion racketeers and drug traffickers.

I found Peru extremely agreeable, and I've resolved to escape the summer there, from late January to the end of February.

I'm going to stop in Lima this time, then I'll continue to Trujullo, and then up to  Cajamarca via Huamachuco, which I'll use as bases to explore the surrounding Andean region, thus:

I'm happy with the new double carriers, which allow me to carry considerably more materials. I am therefore able to travel for longer, a month or more.
