I'm not sure if this photo really conveys what is so likeable about this little piece of wood, which I found on the beach nearby.

It is how it sits in your hand, its velvety smoothness, a with a mysterious gentleness: most soothing. 

When you run your finger down it is makes a soft, dry sound, like a sigh.
